Using Online Banking

I am having difficulty signing on to Woodstone Online Banking.

Woodstone Online Banking passwords are case sensitive. When accessing Woodstone Online Banking, be sure that your CAPS LOCK is turned off. This will allow you to type in your password using the appropriate sequence of lower and upper case letters, as well as numbers.

I get the message that my certificate has expired when I try to log into Woodstone Online Banking.

In order to eliminate this problem, members should upgrade their browser. Key links to the most popular browsers are below:

I tried to access my account and I was informed that it is frozen. Why does this happen and what can I do to fix it?

You are allowed six unsuccessful attempts to access your account before our system will freeze your account. Once a successful attempt is made, the counter is set back to zero. This is to prevent password guessing. If you follow proper password choosing procedures, it is highly unlikely that anyone can guess your password in six attempts. If you have simply forgotten your password, call the credit union at (253) 925-6800 or (800) 334-9828 to obtain a temporary password. We will go through a verification process to ensure your identity.

What does the following message mean: "This page has expired due to inactivity"?

If you are logged in to your account but do not click on any of the links or perform any transactions for 10 minutes, the system will automatically close out your Woodstone Online Banking session. When you try to click on a link or perform a transaction after being closed out you will see the message that the page has expired. All you have to do is click on the Restart Session link, reenter your account number and password and you will be back inside Woodstone Online Banking.

When I click on the Woodstone Online Banking button a message box pops up telling me the site cannot be opened. Does this mean your web site is down?

If you are using Microsoft's Internet Explorer and you have Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) turned off, you will receive an error message stating that the web site could not be opened. You must turn on SSL in order to access your account on Woodstone Online Banking If you are using IE 5 or higher, do the following to enable SSL: Go to the menu on the top of the screen and click Tools followed by Internet Options. A window entitled Internet Options should now be visible. The Internet Options window should have six tabs going from left to right. The name of the tab on the far right is, “Advanced.” Click on the “Advanced” tab. Move the scroll bar about a third of the way down until you see a little padlock and the word Security. Click to check the boxes next to both SSL 2.0 and SSL 3.0. Then click okay at the bottom of the Internet Options window. You will now be able to view secure web sites.

Quicken and MS Money Downloading

Can I do automatic reconciliation with Quicken or Money?

No. Presently we support the downloading and importing method. This requires you to download a file, save it, and then import the data from that file into your money management program.

What are the steps to download transaction history?

Once logged in to Woodstone Online Banking, click the History Tab, then click the Download History for Quicken link (use this link for MS Money also). Select the share or loan ID and transaction date range desired and click Continue. Select a destination for the .qif file and save it.

When I attempt to download Quicken account data from Woodstone Online Banking, the data is downloaded into as a webpage and I am unable to save it in a format that is recognized by Quicken.

This can occur if the Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension or "MIME" content type for the document type is not defined. To correct this, you need to specify the correct content type by following these steps:

a. Double-click My Computer, and then click (Folder Options) in the (View menu).

b. Click the (View) tab in the upper left corner of the Folder Options window, and verify that under the (Hidden files) folder the "Show All Files" circle is selected.

c. Again under the (View) tab, you must also verify that the box for "Hide file extensions for known file types" is not selected.

Note: If needed, click either the circle and/or box to select or clear them, and then click (Apply).

d. Click the (File Types) tab in the upper left corner of the Folder Options window.

e. Click the New type button.

f. At the bottom of the Add New File Type window, verify that the "Confirm open after download" checkbox is checked.

g. In the Description of type box, enter: qif

h. In the Associated extension box, enter: qif

i. Under the Actions heading, click the “New” button.

j. In the Action box, type: OPEN

k. In the Application used to perform action box, type: c:\windows\notepad.exe

l. Click the (Close) button.

m. Click OK until all dialog boxes are closed.

n. Click (Close) on the Folder Options window.

o. Try downloading a Quicken file from Woodstone Online Banking to see if you are prompted to save the file.

Will I be able to download account history into Quicken or MS Money?

Yes. Woodstone Online Banking allows you to download into either Quicken or Microsoft Money.

Security

Does your site provide security to prevent my account information from being intercepted online?

Yes. Woodstone uses state-of-the-art network security to ensure the protection of your account information.

We provide secure financial services through a protocol known as the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). The Secure Sockets Layer prevents other computers along the route from eavesdropping by encrypting all data transmitted between our site and your computer. Intermediate computers would see each packet of information as a meaningless jumble of bytes. The sending end encrypts, or encodes, the data with one key before it is transmitted. The receiving end decrypts, or decodes, the data with another key.

Members that live in the United States can use browsers that support 128 bit keys. Cracking a 128 bit key would involve trying all 2128 combinations. Members that live abroad are currently restricted by the US Government to using browsers that support 40 bit keys. Cracking a 40 bit key would involve trying all 240 combinations, which is over one trillion combinations. A 40 bit key is less secure than a 128 bit key, but does provide an adequate level of security for member financial services.

The Secure Sockets Layer validates the identity of our site to you through the use of a digital certificate. After you connect to our site in secure mode, our site sends your browser a signed digital certificate, which contains the name of our Web server, its public encryption key, the certificate's validity dates, the name of the certification authority that issued the digital certificate to our site, and an unforgeable digital signature. The digital certificate authenticates to you that you are indeed connecting to our site.

The Secure Sockets Layer ensures that the data transmitted between your computer and our site has not been tampered with through the use of Message Authentication Codes (MACs). A MAC is based on the actual data itself, similar to a checksum. This provides a quick way for the receiving end to verify that the data wasn't changed en route. Our site requires that you use a browser that supports SSL. Click here for more information on SSL and encryption.

What are cookies? How does one determine if they are turned on?

Cookies are a very useful tool to differentiate between visits to a web site. This is done by storing a piece of information in the visitor's browser. This is accomplished with cookies. Cookies can store database information, custom page settings, or just about anything that would make a site individual and customizable. An analogy we like to use is that cookies are very much like a "rain-check" of sorts. When you return, you pick up where you left off.

Some cookies have expiration dates. When a cookie expires, your browser will simply erase it from your hard drive. Depending on where it came from, a cookie may expire tomorrow, next week, or any other time. Cookies with an expiration date are generally known as "persistent cookies," meaning they stick around for a while. A cookie that doesn't contain an expiration date will only last as long as your browser stays open. These are called "session cookies." When you close your browser, all session cookies silently disappear. Our Woodstone Online Banking site uses session cookies.

There are different ways of determining if cookies are turned on, depending on which browser version you are using.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 3, 4 & 5

  1. Click on "view" drag down to "options".
  2. Next, click on the "advanced" tab. Check "always accept cookies."
  3. Make sure that "accept all cookies" is checked.

What can I do to protect my accounts?

Even though we are making use of technology to keep your data safe as it passes over the Internet, you still play an important role in keeping your account safe. You should memorize your password. Do not write it down. Doing so may reveal it to others. It is a very good idea to change your password often, especially if you access Woodstone Online Banking from work. We have made it easy for you to change your password. When you are finished with Woodstone Online Banking or if you need to leave the computer, sign off. Our system will sign you off after 10 minutes of inactivity. However, if you sign off every time, you decrease exposure opportunities.

When selecting an access code, do not use words or codes that are easily traced back to you. Using your birth date, spouse's name, favorite team and so on are all dangerous practices. Also, do not use terms or words that can be seen near your computer. For instance, Intel or Pentium are not good choices. It is best to use a mixture of upper and lower case letters, numbers and/or symbols in your code. When put together in a string, they shouldn't make sense. If you have a hard time remembering codes, think of a short saying or sentence you have memorized and use the first letter of every word. Mix in upper and lower case letters and throw in a number or two. Also, the more characters you have in your password, the harder it is to guess.

There are programs that attempt to run through a series of passwords in hopes of gaining access to systems or accounts out on the Internet or on computer systems and networks in general. We limit the number of consecutive failed attempts to six, which will stop these programs in their tracks - especially if you stay away from common words or word combinations.

How do I know which browser I am using?

If you go to the menu at the very top of your screen (the one starting with File) and click on “Help” then “About” (your browser name) a window will appear in the middle of your screen informing you which browser you are currently using.

I just upgraded to Internet Explorer 5.5. When I type in my account number, my password is automatically inserted. Why does this happen and how can I prevent it from happening in the future?

This is a new feature with Internet Explorer 5. It's called "auto complete". It can be turned off easily. Under the tools menu on Internet Explorer, click internet options. Click content. From the personal information area, click auto complete then uncheck "user names and passwords on forms". Click OK, then OK again.

Is there anything special with Macintosh computers as it relates to Woodstone Online Banking?

You will need MS Internet Explorer 5.5 or newer, Firefox 1.5.0 or Safari 1.0 or higher.
