Summer means less access to food for many children in our community. Families who receive free and reduced meals at school struggle to find a way to replace those meals during school vacation months. It is also a time where food bank resources are low.
Woodstone is helping ease this burden by holding a Summer Meals Drive now through May 31 to fill the shelves of MSC’s Federal Way Food Bank and provide food for the Summer Meals program. The Summer Meals program goes out into the community to feed kids where they are (e.g. libraries and kids programs) during the summer months.
Members and employees alike are asked to donate food or money to support the food drive. Jars for monetary donations are at all teller windows and a box for food donations has been placed in the foyer, outside our branch. Suggested donations include:
- Individually wrapped kid-friendly snacks, such as fruit cups, bags of nuts, granola bars, snack crackers, and 100% juice boxes
- Sandwich fixings, including jam, jelly, peanut butter, canned meat and fish
- Mayonnaise, ranch dressing, and other condiments
- Paper lunch bags, napkins, and plastic utensils
The Summer Meals Drive is just one of the many ways Woodstone is supporting our community this summer. Check back to find out more about our summer community events and activities.
